Making a Championship Hall Map
Looking to make your own map for the Survival Championship Hall? This guide will outline how you can do so, and how to increase your chances of your map being accepted!
How Do I Make a Map?
You can create a map in your own single-player worlds or servers, and submit them as a separate post here on the forums along with a world file, more information on the submission process can be found further down.
A guide to Survival’s Championship Hall can be found Here, along with information about how each event works!
Details:
-
You can make a map on your own or in a group, and are able to submit the map at any time!
-
These maps are going to be used in large events, so keep in mind the build will need to be able to support at least ~30-50 players without being too cramped.
-
It’s important that the map will need to meet certain criteria depending on the minigame you’re building a map for (specific details can be found below)
-
You need to make the map secure so that players cannot glitch outside of the maps or into sections they’re not supposed to be able to access, you can make use of barrier blocks to achieve this!
-
The map needs to be made in the newest Minecraft version that Survival is using (Current version is 1.20)
-
You should make any maps in a void or superflat world.
Certain blocks can be used to mark out locations on your map, so make sure to use these blocks in the final map where applicable!
Block | Ability |
---|---|
Gold Pressure Plate | Use to mark out the location where players will be teleported to before the event begins. |
Iron Pressure Plate | Use to mark out the location(s) where players will be teleported to when the event begins. |
Barrier Blocks | Use to block off certain areas of the map to stop players from accessing them. |
Minigame Specific Information
Depending on what event you plan to make a map for, here is some information about each minigame, and what criteria you need to meet for the map to be considered! Please read these thoroughly before starting a map.
Minigames:
Animal Farm
Criteria:
- There should be a waiting area where players are teleported to before the event begins. Mark the location where players will teleport to with a golden pressure plate
- There should be a separate arena where players compete by luring mobs to their teams’ goals. At the centre of the map where animals are spawned in, any entrances should be accessible by any team.
- There should be 9 holes located around the map at equal distances from the centre, these are locations where mobs will be lured and thrown into, so make them large enough that players can easily do so. You should also colour these holes according to the colours of each team to make them easier to recognise.
- Make sure there are ladders to climb outside a hole if you fall in.
- Mark the locations where each team will be teleported to when the event begins with iron pressure plates. This should be in front of their teams’ hole.
Example Map:
Boat Racing
Criteria:
- There should be a waiting area where players are teleported to before the event begins. Mark the location where players will teleport to with a golden pressure plate.
- There should be a minimum of 60 3x3 slots for the boats behind the starting line, and surround each slot with fences/walls. Mark each boat spawn point with red wool.
- There should be a start and finish line, mark these with orange wool.
- The track where boats will race down should be made from blue ice, packed ice, or normal ice (other blocks can be used to slow down the player). You should place walls on either side of the ice path to stop players from falling off the map and make obstacles along the path to challenge players.
- The map cannot have inescapable areas where boats get stuck.
- Any water elevators used to carry boats up sections of the map should be no taller than 20 blocks high per elevator (to avoid players being kicked out of their boats while going up them)
- The map should take ~2-4 minutes to beat.
Example Map:
Dropper
Criteria:
- There should be a waiting area where players are teleported to before the event begins. Mark the location where players will teleport to with a golden pressure plate.
- There should be an iron pressure plate at the start of each stage to mark where the players will be teleported to when the event begins and when the player beats the previous stage.
- There should be 4 stages to each map, each getting progressively more difficult. Make use of obstacles on each level, touching any blocks except water will send them back to the start of that stage.
- There should be water at the bottom of each map where players can land into to move to the next stage.
- Each stage needs a hole where players can drop through to attempt the level.
Example Map:
Elytra Race
Criteria:
- There should be a waiting area where players are teleported to before the event begins. Mark the location where players will teleport to with a golden pressure plate.
- There should be a departure point where the players will be teleported to when the event starts. Mark this area with an iron pressure plate, as this is where players will launch from at the start and where they will be teleported to if they impact with any blocks past the departure point.
- The player will be flying through the map with an elytra and will only have 32 fireworks, so make sure that they can complete it easily with that amount with some to spare. Make use of obstacles throughout the event to make it more difficult.
- Mark the finish line with red stained glass, when the player goes past this area they will have beaten the event.
- The event should take roughly ~2 minutes to beat
Example Map:
Fire Wars
Criteria:
- There should be a waiting area where players are teleported to before the event begins. Mark the location where players will teleport to with a golden pressure plate.
- There should be a large, open arena where players can explore and fight each other. Keep obstacles to a minimum and any terrain relatively flat. Use an iron pressure plate inside the fighting area to mark where players will be teleported to when the event starts.
- Make sure there is no water in the map, and any blocks within the arena can be lit with a flint and steel.
Example Map:
Hide & Seek
Criteria:
- There should be a waiting area where players are teleported to before the event begins. Mark the location where players will teleport to with a golden pressure plate.
- There should be a large, open area where players can explore and hide from the seekers. Make sure there are plenty of varied and interesting hiding spots players can use, and that these areas are all accessible on foot by both the hiders and seekers.
- Use an iron pressure plate to mark the location where hiders and eventually seekers will be teleported to when the event begins. This should be inside the hiding area.
Example Map:
Ice Hockey
Criteria:
- There should be a waiting area where players are teleported to before the event begins and where spectators can view the current match after the event begins. Mark the location where players will teleport to with a golden pressure plate.
- There should be a flat arena made of ice where players from 2 teams are teleported to when the event begins. There needs to be a hole on either side of the map to function as a goal when a boat is pushed into it. Make sure there are ladders so players can climb out of the goals.
- There needs to be a roof made from barrier blocks 5 blocks above the playing area, to stop the boat from being launched too high.
- Use red wool to mark out the locations where each of the 2 teams will be teleported to when a round begins, this should be in front of the goal on each side.
Example Map:
King of the Hill
Criteria:
- There should be a waiting area where players are teleported to before the event begins. Mark the location where players will teleport to with a golden pressure plate.
- There should be a separate area comprised of three rings on different layers, one above the other and increasing in size as you go down (See example images for context)
- When a player is knocked off a layer they should be able to land on the layer below, and if they fall off the third layer they lose the event.
- Make sure each layer is wide enough so it isn’t too easy or hard to launch a player off with a knockback 2 stick.
- Use an iron pressure plate to mark the location where players are teleported to when the event begins, this should be on the top layer.
Example Map:
Last Man Standing
Criteria:
- There should be a waiting area where players are teleported to before the event begins. Mark the location where players will teleport to with a golden pressure plate.
- There should be a separate, completely flat and square arena where players are teleported to when the event begins. Mobs will spawn in this arena and chase players, so make sure to wall the arena off so players/mobs cannot escape.
- Use an iron pressure plate to mark the location where players are teleported to when the event begins, this should inside the arena.
Example Map:
Spleef
Criteria:
- There should be a waiting area where players are teleported to before the event begins. Mark the location where players will teleport to with a golden pressure plate.
- There should be a separate area with three layers made from only snow blocks. Each layer should be 1 block thick, and falling off the last layer will result in failing the event. (See example images for context)
- Players should be able to reach any above layers using snowballs.
- Use an iron pressure plate to mark the location where players are teleported to when the event begins, this should be on the top layer.

How to Submit a Map
Now that you know how to make a map, here’s how you can submit the map you’ve made!
- Convert the world file into a .zip file (You can use WinRAR or the file explorer to do this)
- Upload the world file to a hosting service such as Google Drive
- Once you have a public, shareable link to the file, Make a new post Here and put it under the Map-Submission Tag
- When making the post, Make sure to title the post
MAP_NAME Championship Hall Map Submission
and use the following format:
Make sure to Tag @Alkemystix within your post! I will be reviewing the map.
Judging Process
Once you’ve made the post, a response should be made after a few days or up to a few weeks. This response will either be to inform you that the map has been accepted, to suggest amendments before it can be fully accepted, or to deny the submission.
You can submit maps as many times as you like, but make sure to keep it to 1 post per map, and please don’t repost a map which has been denied in the past without any changes made to it.
If your submission does get accepted, it will be added to the official roster of maps and be potentially used in future championships!
That should be everything you need to know about submitting a map for the championship hall, but if you have any other questions then feel free to DM me! (Discord: alkemystix)
