Ideas for KitPvP

I know KitPvP doesn’t really have a community anymore, but I know some players join every now and then just out of curiosity of anything is happening on Kit. Lately I have been on even when no one else is online and just hang out on my own or with the few people that do come on randomly. Ive noticed a lot of old players joining sometimes, and most of the time when they do, we end up in conversations about KitPvP and how it used to be or even what we wish Kit could be like now. It has really made me want more and more for KitPvP as time goes on. I think about if KitPvP could still live on as a 1.7-1.8 based gamemode, or even if it went down the much more controversial path of the newest versions of Minecraft. Unfortunately, it doesn’t really seem like anything is going to happen with KitPvP any time soon, but I pray that I am wrong.

I know a lot of people will just be like “just let kit die”, but even if you think you feel that way, i know for a fact that if kit were to have a huge comeback and be popular again like it used to be, you’d want to be a part of it even for a little bit. Im bringing attention to Kit because i feel it deserves the attention, and so many other people feel that way as well.

For both Kit mains and non Kit mains, my question is: If we knew an update was on its way, and you got to change, add, or remove anything from or about KitPvP, what would it be?

It could be something as simple as:

  • A new map
  • A new kit
  • A new event

Or even something more complicated like:

  • Kit balancing
  • New warps
  • Different mechanics

Big or small, what would you do to KitPvP if you could?

Advertising + Constant updates. If they put 1.20 kitpvp like they said , no one is ever joining like be so fr, 1.8.9 is meant for PVP not for “more features”

Kits and map would go stale, events are the real only way I can see kit getting some players

We know from retrospection that simply updating KitPvP is not a successful strategy for bringing back a constant population of players. Staff have put in the effort to bring new kits and new maps and make changes to KitPvP but these additions have proven to only temporarily boost player counts. While it was beautiful to see the community fight to keep dearest KitPvP alive, it was naive to think that solely rolling an update would suddenly save the game from desolation. Updates like this are only a supplementary measure to maintain a constant player population, rather than raise it from zero.

I think the best thing that can be done right now is to bring back events in KitPvP rather than have a dedicated event server–just like the glory days. With the event server there’s no point in being there unless there is an event. With KitPvP players would be more encouraged to stick around for the secondary purpose of playing KitPvP. It’s true that players would be there mostly for the event and leave afterward, but at the very least KitPvP would have a healthy amount of players during events, although sporadic. There is one man in particular who can accomplish this with ease; I don’t want to say who, but their name begins with BadBoy and ends with Halo, and if he decides he wants to bring players to KitPvP even for a little while to host events every now and then, he will do so. I’ve glanced over his recent streams and we know, and he knows, that he streams fairly often on MunchyMC but doesn’t give attention to KitPvP. And maybe he simply doesn’t want to, and that’s fine, but KitPvP will continue to be empty unless he or someone with similar influence makes a consistent effort to get players interested in KitPvP again.

Even in the best-case scenario where players are actually playing KitPvP again, it’s important to note that it’s just not going to be the same for those who know how it used to be. It’s not something easily explained in words; it’s just a feeling, I guess. Regardless, if KitPvP never sees some kind of resurgence, it had a good run and will be lamented as one of the greatest modes to ever grace the server, just like it is now. Still, KitPvP and the server at large deserve to be successful even today and I truly believe it has the tools to do so.

the only successful way to revive kit is to advertise it, like that’s really just it lol

@cahrypt your opinion does not matter. That’s pretty sad…

I will say that before I left I was working on another planned update for kitpvp. stopped abruptly like 2-3 months or so ago because of studies and no motivation to continue. for this I apologize, especially to those who put time into coordinating it (john, Twinkie, and matt) knowing very well that the likelihood of these efforts reviving the server long-term was slim. unfortunately it will not see the light of day because most of it isn’t pushed and just sitting on my hard drive. but hey if any munchy dev does decide that they want to waste their time and pick up where I left off, I will gladly provide my garbage code.

from this abrupt stoppage to when I left at the start of September kitpvp has been completely untouched. no development. no word from owner. clearly priorities are elsewhere (releasing new gamemodes instead of tending to the dead ones, perhaps). owner evidently doesn’t care. if he did he would have had another dev working on it right now. any updates are pointless unless BotBoy starts advertising again imo

Id say its very obvious that advertising is the #1 thing that KitPvP needs… Every conversation i have with people is us saying the same things that are in these replies.

It just really sucks that it feels like theres just no way for us even as a whole community to get Bad’s attention. And its not easy for just anybody to advertise the server.

Its not even just KitPvP but also WoolWars. WoolWars imo should have been the gamemode NOT to die, but somehow it died before KitPvP did. Its Munchy’s very own unique game, yet if there were to be a single game removed for inactivity, WoolWars would probably be the one to go. Theres just no attention being brought to it even tho there are people who still care about the game.

Its all just so depressing really

Kit was dead already then and you still worked on it, admirable dedication Cahrypt. Make to sure to stay on top of your studies and keep on that grind my master

Correct me if I’m wrong but wasn’t new event team features part of it…?

There are many things I will not say at the moment, but I do want to say that most lower-staff efforts in the end were met with a large amount of hate. A good amount of the things you recommended, some of our team tried, but were met with toxicity and disinterest.

I understand kit is meant to be a semi-toxic gamemode, that’s just the way soup is. But when creating events/updates is met with “that’s stupid af”, “stfu”, etc. more frequently than enjoyment or appreciation… It became demotivating for me to invest hours of effort into things people didn’t seem to care for. My last personal effort was the new map released, that I spent months on while gathering Kit player’s opinions and such, which was met with inappropriate jokes and disgust from the large majority of the chat upon release.

I am not sensitive to these things or hurt, but I don’t wish to spend personal hours of my days planning events or creating things, with the permissions I am able to use, for a community that doesn’t seem to want them.

I do deeply care for the gamemode, and understand where you are coming from. But, I don’t know if there’s much to provide from my end to make the community semi-happy in regards to events, maps, etc. Even if I made the effort now, I don’t know how much it would impact the server- or if anyone would turn up for events.

And please note, this is a personal reply, not a ‘official statement’ coming from a staff member or a munchymc kit admin. There are many other things I have discussed within our administration & staff team that I have left out of this message since this is meant to be my own personal view.

To those who did appreciate everything, and who thrived on the gamemode, I appreciate you and hear your voices. Our team still has discussions about kit, and it hasn’t been forgotten. I pinky promise to keep everyone in the loop if there are changes coming to kit.

if it makes you feel any better the map was one of the most favorites parts of the update among my friends and others I spoke too, the whole update had a lot of QOL changes besides reworks that were big and new kits but I remember it was probably my favorite new thing as I didn’t get bored as fast playing on it and it had a lot of Easter eggs

it’s really sad seeing kitpvp die as a gamemode, even thought a very semi-toxic community, and as an event member on kit, it’s really fun just being there, and it’s really sad, and it’s a shame we won’t be seeing any updates for it. If some of the developers do get in mind that they want to work on kitpvp, they have my full support, and if I could I would try to help, but it seems there’s no point. Being in the kitpvp community for over 3 years now, I will truly miss it

badboyhalo just cares about releasing new gamemodes for that $$$$$$$$. Instead of focusing on getting players for his other dead gamemodes (woolwars and kit), he focuses on only 1 gamemode which has already seen its decline in players. More devs are needed for every server, especially for those gamemodes which are abandoned. Gamemodes like prison also need a new dev as well. Varm is the only dev and balencing munchy with irl stuff while constenly making new items or maps without help must be rough. Lack of leadership is the main reason for the downfall, no other way to put it tbh.

facts. like literally, bad promised to do a stream for prison and even titled the stream “MunchyMC Prison Reset” but he literally played GameMaker the entirety of the stream :skull: they want more players but aren’t even attempting to save their existing gamemodes. Like Kit and WoolWars could be 100% thriving if they would redirect their attention and actually advertise. But who knows what Bad uses the money for :sob:
