Hello people! Hope that everyone’s doing amazing! Survival season 5 released pretty recently and thought we still have lots to discover and appreciate, I’d love to hear you guys thoughts about The new Skill system.
It might be pretty early… but I believe it would be great to see the community’s feeling about the new perks, changes that could be made, feedbacks, bug reports etc. So for everyone that had a taste of grinding skills, please consider voting on those polls!
As much as I thought it would be a bad thing, I believe it’s kind of needed… trust me on this one. Not only it regulates progression, but also reminds you to do other things than grinding all day long. It’s kind of a slower process than what we’re used to know, but yeah. Some classes are pain to complete everyday anyways…
If anything, the value of the daily exp limit could be changed but I do believe it’s okay as it is!
I would like a wizard class and none of that spellweaver crap. I CAME TO SHOOT FIREBALLS AND TURN PEOPLE INTO HUMUHUMUNUKUNUKUAPUA’AS (reef triggerfish)! NOT ENCHANT BOOKS!
Some great way to gather exp, from what I tried, are colouring wool, crafting dyes or make copper slabs using the stone cutter. Crafters might be a source of exp in the future but if you have any ideas about exp sources or exp value ajustements, it would help a ton.
When it comes to tools expert, well, personally I’ve always found it okay. It’s a passive way to get exp while mining, though it seems to be one of the slowest skills to level up. I wouldn’t mind seeing the exp values rise!
Grinding during 2.5x boosts, Craftsman you can max out in less than two minutes. Farmer you can max in 5 minutes. Creature hunter, 30 minutes. Yesterday I had saved a very rich iron vein as a home, waiting for a 2.5 boost to use it. There ended up being two 2.5 boosts in a row, 60 minutes of boost. I spent the entire hour mining that iron vein nonstop (4 stacks of raw iron blocks), for 12,000xp. Not even halfway there for Tools Expert.
Why is the balance so off? If someone picks craftsman first at level 1 they can hit level 5 in 2 days easily, but if you unknowingly pick tools expert first, you’re stuck for ages.
As far as comparison to last season I do like this system a lot (though I miss acrobatics), but the balance is not right and some classes are just way easier to level than others, with no way of knowing which ones are the best to choose until you’ve already picked them.
I picked Creature Hunter first and the only way to get another skill point was to focus on gold, get crowbars, create a mob spawner, and spend hours hitting hundreds upon hundreds of enemies. If I had picked Craftsman first, I could have picked a second class on day 2 by holding the Drop button and making boots for five minutes.
Coming up on level 25, I want to take Forgemaster. I have 10 stacks of raw iron blocks (5,760 iron), 6 stacks of raw copper blocks, 2 stacks of raw gold blocks all saved up to smelt for XP. Yesterday I found out its 2xp per iron?? Smelting all 10 stacks of raw blocks will get me 11K xp? It’s not worth the time to even try to farm this, it seems.
So its not the mechanics or the perks that are an issue, I like that as a system. The balance is the problem.
You’ve just got to do the math and figure out what you need to build. Sugar is the best, yes. If your goal is to max the XP from one farming run, then you want 25,000xp. During a 2.5x boost, chopping a 3 block cane down to 1 block gets you 20xp. 25,000/20 = 1,250 sugar canes. You can build that with one huge layer, with 4 layers of 313 canes each, with 10 layers of 125 canes each, or with 1,250 layers of 1 cane each.
I prefer to use the math of boosts with 1.5 as that’s the most activated given voting, that would be 12 for chopping full grown cane down to 1 block. 25000/12 = 2083.3333333 sugar cane needed to be chopped. I prefer not to use 2.5 boosts as they are more rare
Just a heads up to anyone reading this -
If you take Forgemaster and stack ores to smelt in a blast furnace and then you leave the area or TP away, the ores will continue to smelt while you are gone but you will NOT get any of the XP from smelting it. If you walk away from the furnace any more than about 25 blocks, you will not get any XP from the smelting, so you’ve got to stand there by the furnace the entire time.
