Which Deleted Munchy Game Would You Most Like to See RETURNED?

Munchy throughout its history has been successful in producing truly unique games that could not be enjoyed on any other server. For one reason or another some of these games have been removed from the server and lost to time. This post is made to explore the lost games and see which ones the community would be most interested in seeing brought back to the game to experience for themselves. This is not made to actually vote to bring back a game; it is just wishful thinking and purely hypothetical. It’s only a what-if. Unless…

Cake Race

Parkour, Strategy, Turn-Based

Cake Race was a true Munchy original game that was released in 2015 either with the server’s release or very soon after. It was a strategy-oriented game with the objective being to be the first player to reach the cake in the middle of the arena. It has the format of Wool Wars, but instead of going upwards, you go to the middle. Each player takes a turn placing a certain type of block; they can either place it in their own lane to progress towards the middle to win, or in an opponent’s lane to slow their progress. It combines the Parkour genre with an element of strategy and was a truly unique combination for its time.

At first while I was writing this post I was unable to find any footage on Cake Race as there doesn’t seem to be any standalone videos of the gameplay, but with a stroke of luck I accidentally stumbled across some BBH background footage of the game while I was researching. Here’s a clip from a video that shows Cake Race:

I feel like it was a small game with a great concept but sadly it was removed in late 2015 / early 2016.

Maze Runner

Survival, Team-Based, Strategy, Kits

The Maze Runner game’s inception actually dates back to McPvP-era late 2013, but stayed with Munchy’s release in 2015. The concept is heavily based on the book/movie but adds a sense of PvP by pitting teams against one another with the ultimate goal of eliminating all other teams and being the last alive. There are many mechanics in the game that complicate the goal, such as choosing the right kit to benefit your team, navigating the maze successfully, and protecting your team’s Princess. That being said, the game is incredibly team-oriented and winning would largely depend on your group’s overall resolve. To win the game, you would usually have to travel alongside your team and your Princess in the maze towards other teams to fight, while at the same time protecting your own Princess. Dying in the game once means you are eliminated, but if your Princess died, your ENTIRE team would be eliminated instantly, which added a crucial objective to your team’s goal: keeping your Princess alive. It also made for exciting sneak attacks where people would get inside an enemy team’s base without them realizing and kill the Princess, therefore eliminating the whole team. You could navigate the maze during the daytime to loot chests for supplies and scout for enemies, but at night, the walls close and if you are still inside the maze you will be faced with hostile NPCs called Grievers which you would most likely not survive the night against. You would have to time your travels carefully and remember your path to ensure you made it back to base in time. The game also had a competitive scene and tournaments were hosted occasionally where instead of teams of maybe 3-5, you were put in HUGE teams of maybe 20 players. I remember BBH hosting one of these tournament-style games back then and it was a fun chaotic time trying to keep your team together and alive.

Here’s a video of what a typical game would look like:

The game was removed sometime in late 2016.

Dodgeball

Casual, Quick

You might recognize Dodgeball as an event seen on KitPvP where you could face a team or face everyone solo. Before that though, Dodgeball was its own dedicated Munchy game; you didn’t have to wait for it to be hosted on KitPvP like today but instead you were able hop into a Dodgeball game whenever you wanted.

The game between then and now is just about the same, but in case you’ve never seen it here’s a rough video of what it looks like:

It was released near the same time as Munchy’s opening, but was removed some months later. It was then brought back to Munchy as an event in KitPvP where you can still play it today, although a far cry from its previous status as its own game mode.

Sky Wars

Competitive, Kits

You are most likely familiar with the game Sky Wars as its been around Minecraft for a while: a more fast-paced Hunger Games but in the sky just for kicks. While I personally didn’t quite see the potential in the presence of Sky Wars (also dubbed Sky SG) on Munchy as the concept already existed on other servers, Munchy did attempt to put in a few twists to make it more outstanding. In comparison to other existing Sky Wars game modes, Munchy’s take included larger maps, kits, a double-jump ability, and a totem system which gave you progression rewards.

Here’s a video from BBH showcasing Sky Wars at its release:

The game was introduced to Munchy in early 2016, but I don’t believe it survived the year.

Hardcore Games(AKA Hunger Games, SoupHG)

Battle Royale, Competitive, Kits, Soup

It’s hard to even begin to explain the history of Hardcore Games and the origin of Soup PvP because it is just so remarkable and unique and amazing. Hunger Games (which was later rebranded to Hardcore Games because of a hilarious copyright threat) was truly a game mode out of its time. Spawn a bunch of people in a vanilla world, everyone runs away to collect the precious mushrooms, go mining for gear, and survive until the end using one of over a hundred available kits. It was danger close to the theme of Battle Royale, which it was not coined as until the term was used to describe the billion-dollar industry of this type of game today. It had to be one of the most hype things in Minecraft during this period of history. It was without a doubt McPvP’s premiere game, its community so expanded it spanned successfully across multiple languages. There were so many different ways to play the game due to the unique kits and their abilities that it was hard to ever grow tired of it. Better yet, you could get teammates with unique kit combinations to form a lethal team. One of the most common pairs you would see back in the day is a Stomper and Endermage combo. But really there is so much you can do with what the game offered that I could talk about it for a long time. The Hardcore Games tournaments, appropriately named Quarter Quells, took the top-ranking Hardcore Games players and put them all in a single game to fight it out to claim the title of the best HG player. It was one of the best Minecraft productions to ever be done in its time, in my humble opinion. Overall, the history of the game is just so rich that even though it was before MY time personally, I know how monumental the Hardcore Games was for many people back in that day. The game was also the birthplace for the careers of many popular faces today like BBH, Dream, Basti, Sinnoh/Jojo, and countless other names who have made their mark on the game’s history.

To showcase this game mode I decided to include an episode of McPvP Top 5, to show those of you have never seen it before just a little insight into the kind of situations you could end up in. I truly wish I had been around to experience this.

Like most good things, Hardcore Games eventually faced a decline which slowly started to kill the game mode. It was featured on Munchy for a significant time as RumbleHG, but it never did live up to its former status and was eventually removed.

Raid

Survival, Competitive, Barebones

I had to add this in review because I genuinely forgot about this one. Raid was a McPvP classic which I would heavily compare to the game Rust, in the sense that it was an extremely hardcore and unforgiving game mode that focused mainly on building your base, acquiring resources, desolating your enemies, and surviving. It can also be considered an offshoot of HCF. From what little I know this is what I understand. I don’t think the game mode was well suited for Munchy.

But anyways here’s a clip of Stimpy playing some McPvP Raid, which is what I imagine Munchy was trying to replicate here.

Munchy released Raid in early 2017 but it had poor reception and died out extremely fast and was subsequently removed only around a month or two later.

Siege

Competitive, Team-Based

Siege from what I understand is a Minecraft League of Legends. You battle an opposing team to destroy the other team’s turrets and ultimately destroy the enemy nexus to win. You can farm resources to earn gold to unlock perks to help your team gain the advantage. Or something like that! It is also apparently an McPvP original which I didn’t know until I researched more.

Although I couldn’t find any decent footage of Munchy Siege gameplay, here is the overview video Munchy released which explains the game in general:

Siege was removed sometime in 2016.

Laser Tag

Casual, Quick

Laser Tag was for most of its existence a prototype game but some could argue that it was a playable game mode at one point. I for one don’t remember it having an actual public release but I suppose I could be wrong. It is pretty much what you would imagine: you run around the map shooting people with a laser. It also contained a bunch of other game types other than Team Deathmatch, such as Infection, as this crudely made video by a bunch of kids show (it’s the best I could find I swear):

My best estimate is that it was playable in 2016 but was offline in 2017/2018.

Smash

Casual, Kit-Based

Another McPvP original, Smash is a Minecraft take on Super Smash Bros. From what I understand it had been in development on Munchy for a long time and was released in mid 2018. Choose your kit, and knock your opponents off the map to take away their lives. Be the last one remaining to win.

This is from McPvP but it still pretty much mirrors what it looked like on Munchy:

Smash was removed in likely late 2018 / early 2019.

KitPvP Classic

Casual

Before Munchy KitPvP had all the different kits you can choose from today, it was KitPvP Classic–no kits; just iron armor, a diamond sword, and soup. In the release of KitPvP “2.0” which is casually known as KitPvP today, Classic was kept as a separate warp but as the new KitPvP was the main spawn it seemed that the Classic game (which was called Competitive although it’s hard to argue that it was actually Competitive) didn’t get any players. It was then entirely removed.

Here is what it looked like back in 2015:

Classic KitPvP was replaced with KitPvP 2.0 in early 2016.

Capture the Flag (Wild Card)

Competitive, Team-Based, Kits

I’ll be including Capture the Flag as a wild card because while it has never been featured on Munchy, there is still a connection to be made. Capture the Flag was another popular McPvP game mode with its own dedicated community. While the objective was fairly straight-forward, the kit-based take on the game made made it much more strategic and team-oriented. You could try to tank it as a Heavy, or sneak in as a ninja. Get insta-kills from far away as Archer, or sit behind a corner as Assassin for a melee insta-kill. CTF did feature a competitive scene. There are different playstyles to use which gave everyone a place in the game regardless of your skills. There was a competitive scene in the game as well which made it much more entertaining to watch Pro teams play live.

Now the thing about Capture the Flag is, you can still play it today! After McPvP closed, the CTF game mode was sold off to another server, and it is still up after all these years. The only problem is, no one plays it anymore. It sits with an extremely small community, and rarely ever sees active games. About 98% of the time it sits at 0 players, only maybe getting a small game on a weekend peak, which even then is uninteresting. This has been the case for a really long time. Years. It hurts to see a unique relic game mode like this sit in waste untouched when it could be revived with the right people. Admins: if you are reading this, this is your sign. :smile_cat:

To showcase this game mode I’ve decided to include a longplay of OG BBH and Dream. It shows the general gameplay as well as all the different kits in action.

You can still play it today by connecting to the server mcctf.com.

Sabotage (Wild Card)

Mystery, Strategy

Another Wild Card just because I’m really passionate about the prospect of bringing a classic game mode back from the dead. Sabotage was indeed another McPvP classic, and is a Minecraft rendition of GMod’s Trouble in Terrorist Town. The premise was simple–there are a bunch of people, but they are divided into three categories: Innocent, Saboteur, and Detective. The Innocents and Detective have to work together to kill all the Saboteurs; and likewise the Saboteurs have to eliminate all Innocents. Innocents do not know who is who, while Saboteurs know who everyone is. Innocents must figure out who to trust and who to kill before the Saboteurs kill them all. Detectives are special Innocents with the ability to inspect bodies for vital info as to who the Saboteurs are. It was Among Us BEFORE Among Us. That’s really it all to be said.

Plus it’s incredibly fun to play with your friends. Here’s a clip of bball wiping out a submarine full of noobs. Whoever tells me how many kills he got in this game first will get a month of Legend, or anything costing equal or lower, as a gift from me for your dedication to learning about the forgotten history of McPvP games. Claimed :smile_cat:

After the end of McPvP the code for Sabotage was acquired by a small group of passionate players trying to rebirth it, and it was held up for a short time before inevitably fading out for good.

Skyblock (Wild Card)

Survival

Skyblock at one point was in the process of production but never actually made it to release. It is theorized by some that it was realized that Skyblock would not survive on Munchy due to the recent release of Hypixel Skyblock at around that time. I would certainly agree that Munchy would need to make something truly unique out of the already existing Skyblock mode to make it worth playing over other Skyblock takes.

So, after reading through all of these intriguing game modes (you definitely read it all), which ONE game would you MOST want to see brought (back) to Munchy?

  • Cake Race
  • Maze Runner
  • Dodgeball
  • Sky Wars
  • Hardcore Games
  • Raid
  • Siege
  • Laser Tag
  • Smash
  • KitPvP Classic
  • Capture the Flag
  • Sabotage
  • Skyblock

Skywars and Smash would be really cool to come back

SkyWars for sure, if Munchy made in its own way it’d be an awesome gamemode which would bring a lot of people into the server.

SkyBlock sounds like a great idea since I’m more than sure that it’d create its own big community within days, however, survival is already a popular thing so not yet at least.

CTF is an OG gamemode but I don’t think people would play it that often, would be fun to have it back though.

I’m not gonna lie, Cake Race sounds like tons of fun :cake:

This was a really cool post. Made me wish I had joined earlier lol

Mazer runner sounds amazing; I’d enjoy a game like that so much

Skywars/SkyHG.

ya boy was ontop of the leaderboard for everything.

Maze Runner was a good game, but wasn’t nearly as fun (to me) as Skywars.

HG would 100% be my pick besides SkyHG/Skywars. Many memories were made during Skywars and HG, hard to pick between them lol

Me and @leCyber got the chance to be on the Skyblock test server back in 2016/2017 :)

I’m going to tactically revive this topic with my own humble opinion on why CTF is the best option:

  • Quick action, jump straight into the game most of the time without waiting in lobbies

  • Can easily spring a competitive scene and host tournaments with

  • Tailors multiple play styles which benefits all players regardless of skill level

  • It’s fun and you can play it right now

It’s just a matter of where you can play it now. I’m just a player but it would be really nice to hear from higher staff the feasibility of buying out an old game and bringing it to Munchy like new. I think it’s a great idea and I don’t see why Munchy doesn’t have the capability to make it happen.

Anyways for anyone still reading I’d love to hear your take on what game Munchy should bring to the server next so feel free to drop your thoughts; there is no wrong answer. Just be sure to read the post in its entirety.

I can tell no one has read everything. :smile_cat: Prize has been claimed now.

you newgens have no idea how bad most of these gamemodes were. they were all basically like a prototype of each one besides the kitpvp casual (which i meant to click for but i missclicked) and hardcore games. kitpvp casual would solve literally every problem with “nErF tHiS kIt” and you cheaters would be so much more obvious. hardcore games was literally the minecraft mode that required the most skill. Imagine UHC and Soup PvP in one gamemode? that was hardcore games. end of discussion.

also raid and CTF were goated. maze runner was aight. everything else was a prototype though

Maze runner was pretty mid since no one played it, but I remember playing smash and having fun, even tho it was a prototype and wasnt always available to play, but prolly that one

Maze runner looks fire o-o

Honestly I can’t imagine many of these becoming super popular. I feel like they died off for a reason, but if they’re totally revamped and take inspirations from other servers, I can see a few of them working out.
